OMAHA, NEBRASKA: The Grace University women's basketball team hosted the Central Christian College of the Bible Saints on Monday, December 11.  After being up 32-19 at the half, the Royals won the game 63-49 to improve their record to 7-7. 

The Royals got off to an early 7-3 lead with a 3-pointer from Karen Orozco and two lay-ups from Marisa Brown.  The Saints regained the lead 9-10 with 4 minutes left in the quarter; the Royals pulled ahead with an 8-2 run to end the quarter with a 17-12 lead.  The Royals continued to build their lead, increasing it to 15 points at 25-14 with just under 6 minutes left in the first half, and finished the half with a 32-19 lead. 

The Saints started the second half with a 7-0 run to cut the Royals' lead to 6 points at 26-32.  With two minutes left in the quarter, the Royals led by 10 at 43-33; by the end of the quarter, however, the Saints had trimmed the Royals' lead to 7 points at 45-38.  Buckets from Alyssa Strickland, Darielle Evans, Karen Orozco, and Tschida Johnson allowed the Royals to go on an 11-2 run in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter.  The Royals continued to pull ahead, leading the game by 17 points at 61-44 with 5 minutes left in the game; they won the game by 14 at 63-49. 

The Royals shot 38.8% from the field (26 of 67), 25% from the 3-point line (6 of 24), and 71.4% from the free throw line (5 of 7), while the Saints shot 30% from the field (18 of 60), 29.2% from the 3-point line (7 of 24), and 46.2% from the free throw line (6 of 13).  The Royals had 34 points in the paints, 19 points off turnovers, and 9 second-chance points; the Saints had only 16 points in the paint, 12 points off turnovers, and 6 second-chance points.  The Royals won the boards with 47 rebounds, 15 on offense and 32 on defense, while limiting the Saints to 39 rebounds, 12 on offense and 27 on defense. 

Grace's highest scorer was Darielle Evans with 21 points; she also contributed 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists.  Tschida Johnson and Marisa Brown both contributed double-doubles with Johnson recording 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 steals and Brown recording 10 points and 13 rebounds.  Karen Orozco was the fourth Royal to score in double digits with 13 points; she also contributed 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.  Alyssa Strickland contributed 7 points and 7 rebounds; she also tied a school record for assists in one game with 13 assists. 

Central Christian's highest scorer with Crystal Eureste with 16 points.  Amber Grimes and Damie Covington also scored in double digits with 11 points each. 

UP NEXT: The Royals will travel to Yankton, South Dakota, to play Mt. Marty College on Tuesday, December 12, starting at 6 p.m.
