Volleyball: Royals Go 0-4 In CSM Invitational Tournament

OMAHA, NEBRASKA: The Royals struggled for the second weekend in a row as they played Briar Cliff, Presentation, Dakota Wesleyan, and Mt. Marty, going 0-4 the College of Saint Mary Tournament.  Grace now has a 2-9 record. 

Grace Against Briar Cliff University

The Royals lost their first match of the weekend to Briar Cliff, a member of the GPAC, 0-3 with scores of 11-25, 24-26, and 16-25.  Grace had 25 kills (.140) to Briar Cliff's 46 kills (.262), and 36 digs to Briar Cliff's 50.  Senior Aaliyah Dunbar led Grace's offense with 8 kills, while senior libero Chloe Corbett led the defense with 12 digs.  With this match, Grace's record fell to 2-6, while Briar Cliff improved to 6-0. 

Grace Against Presentation College

The Royals fell to Presentation College 1-3 with scores of 22-25, 25-23, 22-25, and 14-25.  The Royals played Presentation closely throughout the first three sets, forcing a win in the second set, but ultimately fell in the fourth set.  The Royals had 45 kills with a .155 percentage while Presentation had 58 kills and a .200 percentage.  Taylor Thompson led the Royals with 14 kills (.180) and 17 digs, followed closely by Aaliyah Dunbar with 11 kills (.267).  Chloe Corbett contributed 36 of the Royals' 87 digs. 

These two teams will face each other again next month at Presentation College on October 14. 

Grace Against Dakota Wesleyan

After falling to Dakota Wesleyan in three sets last weekend the at Corn Palace Classic, the Royals won the first set of the match 26-24.  Dakota Wesleyan won the next 3 sets 16-25, 25-27, and 23-25.  Grace had 58 kills (.212) and 76 digs, while Dakota Wesleyan had 68 kills (.276) and 90 digs.  Taylor Thompson led the Royals with 16 kills while Becca Entz and Aaliyah Dunbar contributed a combined 25 kills.  Senior Chloe Corbett had 35 digs, helped by Destiny Vasquez with 10 digs and Kara Peters and Katie Entz with 9 digs each. 

The Royals will play Dakota Wesleyan for a third time this season on Friday, September 15, at home. 

Grace Against Mt. Marty

The Royals also played Mt. Marty at the Corn Palace Classic last weekend, losing in three sets.  After losing the first two sets 18-25 and 9-25, Grace won the third set 25-23 but ultimately fell in the fourth set 17-25.  The Royals had 41 kills, led by Aaliyah Dunbar with 15 kills (.278) and Taylor Thompson with 12 (.143), while Mt. Marty had 64 kills.  Grace had 59 digs, with Chloe Corbett contributing 25 and Destiny Vasquez contributing 10, and Mt. Marty had 75 digs.  The Royals had 8 total blocks to Mt. Marty's 5.

The Royals will play Union College on Thursday, September 14, at 7 p.m. at home.
