OMAHA, NEBRASKA: The Royals hosted the Valley City State Vikings on Thursday, September 21, in the Jim Classen Gymnasium. The Royals lost in 3 sets with scores of 22-25, 20-25, and 8-25.
The Royals played the game without their starting setter due to sickness, yet they only lost the first set by 3 points, 22-25. The next set was also a close game, 20-25. An injury in the third set left the Royals with an even smaller bench, and they struggled to keep up with the Vikings, eventually losing 8-25.
The Royals had 33 digs, 15 of which came from libero Destiny Vasquez, to the Vikings' 35 digs. The Royals had 31 kills, and the Vikings had 40. Sophomore Alicia Pierce led the Royals with 6 kills (.385) and two serve aces; Aaliyah Dunbar and Taylor Thompson also had 6 kills each. Becca Entz had 5 kills (.400), as did Katie Entz.
UP NEXT: The Royals play twice on Saturday, September 23, at Bellevue University. They will play Mayville State at 2 p.m. and Bellevue University at 4 p.m.
